5 March 2009 - Cooking for one classes

FREE cooking sessions are on offer for older men with little or no experience in the kitchen.

The ‘Cooking for One’ initiative is aimed at older men who perhaps find themselves having to cook for the first time.

It provides a taster session to help develop basic cookery and healthy eating skills.

Local community chefs run these free sessions and the aim is to give practical advice and ideas for simple recipes.

This should build confidence in older men’s ability in their kitchen in a friendly, fun environment instead of always relying on takeaway and convenience foods.

There are two free sessions being organised, each one lasting for three hours which includes time to eat the meal that has been cooked.

• Horizons Community Learning, Churchill Court, Hollington on Monday 30 March from 3.30 p.m.

• The Bridge Community Café, Priory Road, Ore on Saturday 4 April from 10.30 a.m.

For more information and to book a place, please ring Maggie Cornish, on 01424 457129 or Mary Gillam, on 01424 457109.

This is a local initiative from the Health Improvement Team at NHS Hastings and Rother.
