BROOMGROVE residents have easy access to fresh fruit and vegetables thanks to a new venture by the Community Fruit and Veg and Oasis projects.
A fruit and veg stall is being run on Tuesday and Friday mornings at Oasis in Malvern Way on the Hastings estate. The stall is also used by members of black and minority ethnic groups as a way of practising their English skills.
Both projects receive funding from NHS Hastings and Rother to help improve the health and well being of residents in specific wards in Hastings and St Leonards - in this case Ore Valley.
“The initiative aims to help local residents increase their consumption of fruit and vegetables and to make healthy choices,” says Mary Gillam, food and health project support worker with NHS East Sussex Community Health Services.
