Staff at the NHS Hastings and Rother health fair at Priory Meadow on 22 September were delighted at the number of local people looking for information on staying healthy.
Over 160 people had their blood pressure checked and hundreds of leaflets were taken away, covering a host of subjects from giving up smoking to maintaining good sexual health.
Among those having their blood pressure checked was the NHS Hastings and Rother’s Non Executive Director Jeremy Birch who said,
“One of our key roles is to provide local people information and support to help them lead as healthy lives as possible. This includes services and advice on giving up cigarettes, drinking sensibly, exercising regularly, eating healthily and maintaining good mental health. The health fair is a great opportunity for us to tell local people about what the NHS in Hastings and Rother can offer, but of course it is just one of a wide variety of ways in which we are working to improve people’s health.”
The health fair fielded lots of enquiries about local NHS services and specific subjects like the new Station Plaza Health Centre, maternity services, how to comment on services, finding an NHS dentist and also about the new Health Trainers programme in Hastings and Rother; a team who work directly with people to help them improve their health.
