5 June 2009 - New cervical screening clinics

TWO new clinics are being held in Bexhill offering women vital cervical screening.

The clinics are at Bexhill Health Centre, Bexhill Hospital, Holliers Hill, on

• Wednesday 17 June, 6pm-8pm (last appointment 7.40pm)
• Wednesday 15 July, 6pm-8pm (last appointment 7.40pm)

Anyone woman aged 25-64 who missed their last screening – also called a smear test – or is due to have one shortly can book an appointment by calling Jenny Greenfield on 07733 328076.

The new clinics are in addition to cervical screening offered by GP practices, family planning and sexual health clinics.

“We want to give women another option about where they go have this very important screening,” says Jenny, consultant nurse for cervical screening for NHS Hastings and Rother & NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald – the two East Sussex primary care trusts.

She adds: “If these first two Bexhill clinics prove popular I will consider running another series.  Similar sessions at Lewes Victoria Hospital have been full so I hope the Bexhill sessions are equally popular.

“Media coverage of Jade Goody’s death from cervical cancer has increased the number of young women coming forward for screening but it’s important all women aged between 25 and 64 are screened.

We need to increase the screening uptake by women across the age range and across East Sussex.”
