16 February 2009 - Local GP consortium

NHS Hastings and Rother is pleased to announce that a contractor has been successfully appointed to run the new Walk In Centre in Hastings.

The new service will be open from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week, allowing anyone who has a health concern to get help and advice from a GP or practice nurse.

Local people will also be able to register with the new Walk In Centre as patients, just like any other GP practice.

The new facility forms just one part of the new £16 million pound Station Plaza Primary Care Centre, which is due to open in early 2010.

Following a rigorous tendering process, South East Health (SEH), which is a not for profit organisation with over 500 GP members, has been appointed to run the new Walk In Centre.

SEH will be working with local GPs Dr Mike Cooper, Dr Paul Seal and Dr Hannah Hughes.

Mike Wood, Chief Executive of NHS Hastings and Rother says:

“This is really exciting news. The new Walk In Centre will allow people to see a doctor at a time and place that is more convenient to them.

The Walk In Centre can be used by anyone, whether they live in Hastings or are simply visiting or working in the town.

The Station Plaza development is part of an overall effort by NHS Hastings and Rother to offer local people as much choice and flexibility as possible when they want to see their GP, or get treatment from other primary care services.”

Ron Owttrim, Chief Executive of South East Health, adds:

“We are delighted to have been awarded the contract to run the new Walk In Centre in Hastings and we are looking forward to getting the new facility ready for the opening of the Station Plaza Primary Care Centre in early 2010.

We already provide the out of hours GP service for local people and will be working hard to offer a flexible and convenient service at the Walk In Centre that provides the care and advice that people need.

We are pleased to be working with local GPs to offer a wider choice and high standard of services to people in Hastings.”

The new Station Plaza Primary Care Centre will provide space for 10 local GPs, with 6 initially transferring to the new building, in addition to the doctors working at the new Walk In Centre.

Five existing GP practices, which are currently occupying unsuitable, cramped and inadequate Victorian buildings, will be moving into the new building.
