19 October 2009 - Wanted - the county's best poets and writers to mark World AIDS Day

The NHS in East Sussex is calling on all budding poets and writers to enter a special competition to mark World AIDS Day, 1st December 2009.

A number of celebrities (see below) are lending their support, with the competition winners in each age category scooping some top prizes ranging from a 3D web cam to family days out at local attractions.

The theme of the competion is 'What HIV means to me' with poems or short stories welcome.

Competition organiser, Kevin Dillistone, a sexual health specialist with the NHS in East Sussex, says:

"World AIDS Day on 1st December is about remembering those affected by HIV and AIDS, as well as raising awareness about this virus and reminding people how to stay safe.

We want this competition to get people really thinking about HIV and AIDS, so they can put their thoughts and feelings down on paper in a poem or short story.

I am delighted that tv presenter Adrienne Lawler (from ITV's 'Everything Must Go') and the Cheeky Girls have kindly agreed to come on board and lend their support.

Adrienne will be amongst those helping to judge the best entries and I know we are all really looking forward to seeing what people come up with."

The presentation of prizes will take place at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on the evening of 1st December.

All entries will be compiled into a book available to all GP waiting rooms and libraries across East Sussex.

There are three main age categories which people can enter:

Under 16s
16-25 year olds
26 year old and over

Entries must be no longer than a thousand words and must be accompanied by an entry form.

Full competition details and copies of the entry form are available by contacting the NHS Communications Team on tel 01273 403550 or e-mail joel.hufford@esdwpct.nhs.uk
