TWO new clinics are being held in Lewes offering women vital cervical screening.
The clinics are at Lewes Victoria Hospital, Nevill Road, on
• Tuesday 17 March, 6pm-8pm (last appointment 7.40pm)
• Wednesday 15 April, 6pm-8pm (last appointment 7.40pm)
Anyone woman aged 25-64 who missed their last screening – also called a smear test – or is due to have one shortly (see notes for news editors) can book an appointment by calling 01273 474153 ext 2145.
The new clinics are in addition to cervical screening offered by GP practices, family planning and sexual health clinics.
“We want to give women another option about where they go have this very important screening,” says Jenny
Greenfield, consultant nurse for cervical screening for NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald & NHS Hastings and Rother – the two East Sussex primary care trusts.
“She adds: If the clinics prove popular we will continue the monthly sessions at Lewes Victoria Hospital and introduce similar clinics in other areas, including Hastings and Rother.
“Media coverage of Jade Goody cervical cancer diagnosis has increased the number of young women coming forward for screening but it’s important all women aged between 25 and 64 are screened.
We need to increase the screening uptake by women across the age range and across East Sussex.”
