The East Sussex Stop Smoking Service is marking Stop Smoking Day on March 11th by offering help and advice to the public at events across the county.
Eastbourne District General Hospital will have a stand in the hospital’s main reception area and there will also be advice and displays in Newhaven Town Centre, Boots at the Arndale Centre in Eastbourne and Tesco (10am to 2pm) North Street, Hailsham.
Peacehaven residents will be able to come along to Community House at the Meridian Centre from 9.30 to 11am.
A wide range of other Stop Smoking events will also be taking place at local GP surgeries and health centres, schools, colleges and community venues across the county.
Lots of free support and information for those wanting to quit smoking will be on offer, including advice about nicotine replacement products.
People who use nicotine replacement therapy are up to four times more likely to successfully go smoke free than those using will power alone.
You can also have a go on a carbon monoxide monitor to measure the level of harmful carbon monoxide in your body and help you understand why people become addicted to smoking.
Claire Chappell, Stop Smoking Specialist Advisor, says:
“Research shows that around 50% of people who use their local NHS Stop Smoking Service have successfully quit four weeks later.
So, if you really want to give up, come along to one of our events on March 11th, or call the East Sussex Stop Smoking team on 0800 917 8896, because the chances of reaching your goal are much greater with the right help.”
The Stop Smoking Service also offers one-to-one appointments, together with specialist stop smoking services for pregnant women.
The team can also visit workplaces and colleges to target help to groups of smokers.
Those who manage to give up smoking through the service before 31 March, and keep it up for four weeks, will receive a £30 supermarket voucher.
