Services for people with drug and alcohol problems in East Sussex have scored well in the most recent official review by the Healthcare Commission and National Treatment Agency.
This is the third year of the review which shows that East Sussex is doing particularly well at meeting the needs of all of the diverse communities living in the county who are coping with substance misuse.
Sarah Valentine Director of Commissioning and Primary Care for NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald and NHS Hastings and Rother says:
“The services provided are very specific following thorough research from all angles, including disability, discrimination and race.
We want to get drug and alcohol users engaged in effective treatment that will have a positive impact on their lives and health.“
The review shows that the county is also doing well at providing residential rehabilitation for substance misusers.
The Commission report says that drug and alcohol teams have created safe treatment environments and have provided experienced and competent practitioners.
It is welcome news for the East Sussex multi-agency Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT), which tackles these issues at a local level.
East Sussex DAAT Joint Commissioning Manager, Jason Mahoney says:
"The report is just reward for the dedication and year-round hard work carried out by the Team.
Drug services for local people have been reviewed positively and we've got a clear picture about how we can keep improving."
