Uckfield community hospital matron Sue Adams has received the Queen Mother Award for Outstanding Service from the Queen’s Nursing Institute at an award ceremony in London.
She is one of only five community nurses nationally thjs year to receive the award, which is presented to nurses for exceptional service to patients through nursing practice in any aspect of primary health care.
Sue was nominated by Flowie Georgiou, head of business performance and planning for NHS East Sussex Community Health Services.
Flowie says:
“Sue has not only maintained the highest of clinical standards in the areas she has worked but has built that ethos in all of the teams at Uckfield Hospital.
The patients and staff speak most highly of her as a leader and clinician and she always puts the needs of patients first.
She deserves this award and we are delighted for her”
Sue herself says:
“I was overwhelmed at being nominated and felt it a huge honour especially as my certificate was signed by the Queen personally”.
Her nomination includes credit for providing that services are not just up to date, but leading the field.
It also describes how she manages a strong team and is well known for her caring, “can do” approach.
Sue has started up many new services including a minor injuries service and high quality end of life care for patients in Uckfield which is now used in all local community hospitals and district nursing teams.
