Nursing staff at the NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald roadshow at the CO-OP supermarket in Heathfield on Thursday 26 March referred twenty five people with increased blood pressure to their GPs.
A total of 58 blood pressure checks were taken at the event and the majority of readings were taken from people in their 50s to 70s.
A single higher reading can be an indicator of a problem, or simply because of events at that moment. Each person tested was given the relevant advice according to their result.
Community nurse Elaine McGarvey says,
'It is important that people recognise the implications of lifestyle on their health. The roadshow highlighted various issues including stopping smoking, healthy eating and exercise.
We are here to increase people’s awareness of potential problems so they may seek help earlier to prevent ill health in later life and equip them with knowledge and awareness to take control of their future health.'
The roadshows are aimed at getting information about local health and health promotion services out to people in their local communities.
On Friday 3 April the NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald roadshow will be at the Crowborough Waitrose from 10am to 4pm.
