Lewes Victoria Hospital has just been honoured with a visit from HRH Princess Alexandra as part of its centenary celebrations.
The first royal visit was 100 years ago when the hospital was opened Princess Henry of Battenburg.
Continuing in that tradition, the Princess met staff and patients in a number of departments and was shown equipment such as the new DEXA scanner and Ultrasound machine, funded by the League of Friends.
She also unveiled a commemorative plaque in Meadow Lodge, accompanied by The Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Peter Field.
The Chairman Nick Darby says,
“The people of Lewes have always cherished their hospital and have supported it very strongly over many years. It is really rewarding for staff to see that this still holds true today and that the service they give to the community is truly appreciated”.
After a reviving cup of tea the Princess was kind enough to sign the Visitors’ book before leaving for her next engagement.
