29 October 2010 - More time to have your say on local pharmacy services

A public consultation on local pharmacy services has been extended until the end of the year.

NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald and NHS Hastings and Rother have carried out a detailed analysis of the health needs of local people, what pharmacy services are already in place, as well as what gaps there are in services and how these gaps could addressed.

These draft documents, one for each area, are called the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments or PNAs and have recently been updated following feedback which has been received.

Local people now have until 31st December 2010 to submit their views on the PNAs to help develop plans for the future.

The previous deadline had been 14th November 2010.

Graham Delves, Head of Pharmacy, is in charge of the team who have put the needs assessments together.

He says:

"A great deal of work has gone into pulling together a picture of what pharmacy services in our area look like.

We have already received some really useful views during the early part of the consultation, but we would still welcome more opinions.

In particular we would like people to tell us what they think about:

- how accurately services in their area have been mapped

- whether they agree with the needs that have been identified and the proposed steps to address those needs

- any needs they feel we have missed

We will then use what people tell us to update the PNA before it is published early next year."

You can get hold of a copy of the draft PNA by calling tel 01424 735669 or e-mailing pna.returns@nhs.net
