The local NHS and Alzheimer’s Society are teaming up to offer advice and information on dementia.
They have organised two ‘road shows’ in Eastbourne and Hastings where staff will be on hand to offer advice on a range of issues, including
- how people can obtain a diagnosis of dementia
- what help is available to people affected by dementia, as well as their families / carers
- maintaining an independent lifestyle if you are diagnosed with dementia
Angela Broomfield, a Health Promotion specialist for the NHS in East Sussex, said:
"We have a much higher proportion of older people in the county than many other parts of England, and that also means we have a higher prevelance of cases of dementia.
That is why it is important that we make local people aware of dementia, including the importance of getting an early diagnosis, and what help and support is available locally for those affected.
Whether you’re after some basic advice, or more detail on specific services, we’ll be pleased to help."
Angela and her colleagues will be at Priory Meadow, Hastings on Thursday 27 January between 09.30 and 16.00 and at the Eastbourne Arndale Centre on Thursday 3 February between 09.30 and 16.00.
Information and advice from the Independent Living Service and Age Concern will also be available.
The project is a joint initiative organised by staff from the NHS in East Sussex and Alzheimer’s Society.
