4 January 2011 - Hospital boosted by new 7 days a week X-ray service

Patients using Uckfield Community Hospital are set to benefit from a new expanded X-ray service which will be available every day of the week, including weekends, from this Saturday (8th January 2011).

The new service means that people visiting the hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit can be X-rayed on site, rather than sometimes having to travel elsewhere as was the case previously when the X-ray department was open 5 days a week.

Sue Adams is Matron at Uckfield Community Hospital. She says:

"It is fantastic that we are now able to offer people an X-ray service 7 days a week here in Uckfield.

The service is already well used by the various out-patient clinics we offer, and now we can carry out X-rays from Monday to Sunday, meaning we can offer patients using the Minor Injuries Unit an even better service than before.

Not only is this better for patients, but it is better for the NHS as it allows us to make the best use of local resources."

The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at Uckfield is open from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week.

It can help people with cuts, sprains, minor burns and other less serious injuries, such as eye infections and simple bone fractures.

There are two other MIUs in the NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald area at the Lewes Victoria Hospital and Crowborough War Memorial Hospital.

You do not need an appointment - walk in or telephone for advice when the units are open, 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week.
