Choice of Any Qualified Provider means that when patients are referred (usually by their GP) for a particular service, they should be able to choose where they receive that service from a list of qualified providers who meet NHS service quality requirements, prices and other normal contract standards.
We need to identify at least three community or mental health services which will be prioritised to deliver extended choice of provider from nexy year. The Department of Health has identified a list of services where patients could benefit from increased choice but we can prioritise other services if that is more appropriate for our area.
The prioritisation process is explained in more detail in a letter that has been sent out to a range of our stakeholders.
